Healing Gardens

Mercy Medical Center's new hospital expansion will integrate a series of healing gardens that can be viewed from patient rooms. The lush gardens, designed to attract birds and butterflies, create an inspiring and relaxing atmosphere of color and sounds. The outdoor terrace, an extension of the new entry, offers many seating areas. Patients can stroll or relax beside the cascading falls of the created water feature, soothed by the sound of rushing water.

This plan is in response to research that clearly demonstrates the positive effects of patients interacting with nature. Such beneficial effects include shortened hospital stays, lessened anxiety, reduced need for pain medication, and fewer complications. By providing a healthy, restorative environment for patients and staff alike, Mercy Medical Center contributes to a healthier community.
